The Varec® 8810 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is designed for terminal operators, refinery engineers, inventory managers, and EPC teams that need to aggregate tank gauge data from mixed-manufacturer field fleets and publish it securely to SCADA, FuelsManager®, and enterprise inventory systems from a single installation point.
Unlike single-protocol gateways or protocol converters that each handle one gauge family, the 8810 RTU normalizes Honeywell Enraf GPU/BPM, L&J Tankway, Varec Mark/Space, Veeder-Root/Ronan serial, Endress+Hauser serial, Hectronic HLS, Emerson/SAAB Frequency Shift Keying, digital I/O, and analog inputs simultaneously on a single modular chassis.
A modular architecture supports up to six swappable interface modules per unit, delivering up to 24 communication channels and up to 400 tanks per RTU with native OPC UA (X.509 certificate encryption), Modbus TCP/RTU, and Modbus over TCP for host integration. Activity-based intelligent scanning prioritizes active tanks, and native API-standard tank volume, density, and weight calculations support redundant level and temperature sources.
The browser-based VeRTUe configuration environment delivers online and offline setup, remote firmware updates, and diagnostics from any networked workstation. ANSI/IEEE surge protection and US, Canada, IECEE, and CE approvals round out the platform for large terminals, pipeline stations, refineries, and defense fuel facilities.
Up to six interchangeable modules — Serial (RS-232/RS-485), GPU/BPM, Mark/Space, Tankway, Digital I/O, Analog Input, FSK — consolidate field protocols under one platform.
An embedded OPC UA server with X.509 certificate encryption publishes near-real-time tank data to SCADA, HMI, and enterprise systems across shared or public networks.
Up to 24 communication channels and 400 tanks per RTU minimize field units at large facilities and simplify enterprise-scale inventory management.
The VeRTUe web interface supports online and offline configuration, remote firmware updates, file transfers, and diagnostics from any networked workstation — no field trip.
Dual Ethernet ports and native API volume, density, and weight calculations switch automatically to a secondary level or temperature source when the primary fails.
Built-in surge protection per ANSI/IEEE on all field connections plus US, Canada, IECEE, and CE approvals protect mission-critical communications at the tank farm.

Serial (RS-232/RS-485), GPU Bi-Phase Mark, Mark/Space, Tankway, Digital I/O, Analog Input, and FSK — up to six modules per unit in any combination.
Yes. A fully embedded OPC UA server with X.509 certificate-based encryption communicates with SCADA, HMI, and enterprise inventory systems, including FuelsManager®, over secure or public networks.
The browser-based VeRTUe application supports online and offline configuration, diagnostics, remote firmware updates, and file transfers from any workstation on the network.
Yes. Multi-protocol module support and serial compatibility allow existing Enraf BPM, L&J Tankway, Varec Mark/Space, and Veeder-Root TLS instruments to feed modern OPC UA and Modbus TCP host architectures without replacing tank-side equipment.
Dual Ethernet ports support simultaneous OPC UA and Modbus TCP connections, and the native API tank-volume calculations switch automatically from the primary to the secondary level or temperature source on primary-source failure.
The 8810 is certified to US, Canada, IECEE, and CE requirements, with ANSI/IEEE surge protection on all field connections for mission-critical installations.
The 8810 RTU is the high-capacity chassis for large terminals — up to 400 tanks, six module slots, OPC UA and Modbus TCP, dual Ethernet. The Varec 9810 miniRTU is the compact counterpart for smaller sites, satellites, or single-tank roll-outs where the full 8810 chassis exceeds the requirement. Both feed FuelsManager® and SCADA.
With over a century of tank gauging heritage, Cognesense brings the Varec 8810 RTU to terminals, pipeline stations, refineries, and defense fuel facilities that need a single, secure integration point for mixed-manufacturer gauge fleets. Six swappable interface modules, up to 400 tanks per unit, native OPC UA with X.509 encryption, Modbus TCP/RTU, activity-based scanning, API-standard volume calculations, and the browser-based VeRTUe environment make it the backbone for large-scale inventory automation and SCADA integration — trusted wherever you need to measure, monitor, and protect what matters most.
