MCG 1095

The MCG 1095 Wireless Level Alarm Probe is designed for tank farm operators, refinery and chemical plant engineers, terminal safety teams, compliance managers, and EPC contractors who require reliable overfill protection for hazardous liquid storage.

The probe provides wireless, fully self-testing alarm protection to help prevent spills and maintain regulatory compliance.

Unlike conventional alarm probes that only test electrical continuity, the MCG 1095 physically lifts its displacer during each self-test. This verifies both the mechanical and electrical components of the alarm system, ensuring the probe will operate correctly under real high-level conditions rather than only simulated test scenarios.

The probe communicates wirelessly over long distances and operates using a long-life lithium battery, eliminating the need for trenching or signal cabling. When paired with the MCG 7030 Touch Panel Alarm Monitor, the probe supports:

  • Automated scheduled testing
  • Remote diagnostics
  • Alarm reporting
  • Continuous battery health monitoring

Constructed from rugged stainless steel with corrosion-resistant components, the MCG 1095 is built for demanding industrial environments. Optional nylon or graphite displacers and explosion-proof housings certified for Class I, Division 1 hazardous areas provide dependable performance in facilities handling flammable, hazardous, or high-value liquids.

Features

True Mechanical Verification

Performs complete self-testing by physically lifting the displacer, confirming actual alarm functionality rather than simulating only electrical signals.

Wireless Alarm Reporting

Eliminates wiring through a secure, battery-powered wireless link, sending real-time alarm updates and diagnostics over long distances.

Remote Auto-Testing

Enables automated periodic self-checking from the control room via the MCG 7030, improving reliability without requiring onsite access.

Fire Code Compliance

Meets strict state requirements for independent overfill alarms, supporting safe storage of flammable and hazardous liquids.

Continuous Battery Monitoring

Regularly checks battery status and sends immediate alerts if power becomes low or abnormal operating conditions occur.

System Integration Ready

Interfaces seamlessly with MCG 7030 and MCG 3900 systems for alarm logging, reporting, automated testing, and facility-wide visibility.

Applications

  • Overfill Protection: Ensures dependable high or high-high alarms that prevent spills, reduce environmental risk, and maintain compliance across tank storage facilities.
  • Pump/Valve Control: Provides reliable alarm-triggered actuation that protects pumps and valves from unsafe levels and prevents product loss or equipment damage.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Supports fire-code mandated independent alarms, lowering operational risk and simplifying safety audits for hazardous storage operations.
  • Remote Tank Farms: Wireless architecture minimizes installation cost and complexity for distant tanks where trenching or cabling is impractical or expensive.
  • Critical Liquid Storage: Protects hazardous or valuable chemicals, fuels, and crude oils with verified alarm performance that avoids costly and dangerous releases.
  • Retrofit Installations: Ideal for updating older tanks, providing modern alarm reliability and wireless operation without modifying existing infrastructure or wiring.

What is a “true self-test,” and why is it better than a standard electronic test?

A standard electronic test only verifies the electrical circuit is intact. The MCG 1095’s “true self-test” physically moves the displacer to confirm that both the mechanical and electrical components are functioning correctly. This physical verification provides a higher level of assurance that the alarm will work when a real overfill condition occurs.

How does wireless communication improve installation and operation?

+

The wireless function eliminates the need for expensive and time-consuming trenching, conduit runs, and wiring to each tank. This allows for quicker, less disruptive, and more cost-effective installation, especially for retrofits. It also enhances safety by reducing the need for personnel to work on high-voltage wiring in hazardous zones.

How long does the battery last and how is battery health monitored?

+

The probe is powered by a long-life lithium battery, typically lasting over a year. The MCG 1095 continuously monitors and reports its battery status to the connected system, such as the MCG 7030 Touch Panel. You receive an alert well in advance of a low-power condition, ensuring the probe is always operational and ready to protect your assets.

Is the MCG 1095 suitable for hazardous locations?

+

Yes. It is certified for safe operation in hazardous, flammable, and chemical storage environments.

What displacer materials are available?

+

Standard nylon, or optional stainless steel or graphite displacers for specific gravity and chemical compatibility requirements.

Summary

The MCG 1095 Wireless Level Alarm Probe extends Cognesense’s proven overfill protection to remote and hard-to-wire tank locations. It combines the same true mechanical self-test as the MCG 1090 with WirelessHART communication, eliminating conduit runs while maintaining the alarm integrity required for API 2350 compliance. Explosion-proof construction and FM/CSA approvals ensure dependable performance in hazardous-area service.
